Subway Art in Stockholm

One of the most incredible art you'll find in Stockholm is actually on it's subway. The Swedes get to experience beautiful art on their daily commutes. Now that's a luxury I can get behind

T Centralen

The art is spread around many stations, sometimes called the longest art exhibition in the world. This one here is the T Centralen station, as the name suggest is the central station in Stockholm connecting to all the different areas of the city

Stockholm Central Station

The central station platform is quite impressive too.

Tekniska Högskolan

But if you head to Tekniska Högskolan, you can feel like you are in some Star Trek alien planet. There is a marking below this space apparatus to ensure smooth teleportation between planets.

Tekniska Högskolan

The cryptic instructions on how to bend space and time has been written very clearly on the side of the station

Tekniska Högskolan

You can also take the slower rainbow escalator if teleportation is not your thing.

Stadion Station

Stadion station was my favorite one. It looks so good that when I was there, a photoshoot was going on with a model posing presumingly for raincoats I guess?

Stadion Station

There are also pointy rainbow arrows directing you incase you feel dizzy by all this remarkable artwork.

Also some colorful flowers to keep you refreshed while waiting for the train. For a comprehensive guide to all the subway artwork checkout this guide

Stockholm

When you emerge out of the subway, a beautiful city awaits you.

Stockholm

The streets are clean and fancy looking.

Brantingmonumentet

The Branting Monument shows prominent socialist Hjalmar Branting leading a group of workers. He lead a successful anti-war movement against Norway for which he shared the Nobel Peace Prize. He went on to become Sweden's prime minister twice.

Riksdagshuset

A brisk walk from the monument, you can see the Parliament building. It is right after the arch you saw earlier. This is where one of the world's biggest socialist polices are debated and agreed upon

Drottninggatan & Strömgatan

Despite all the care-taking socialism, Swedish society is not very sympathetic towards bronze fox statues. They have to resort to begging on the streets. This statue by British sculptor Laura Ford is called the 'Rag and Bones'

Vasa Museum

Island of Djurgården in Stockholm is filled with museums, you might as well be called the island of museums. One of the museums on the island hosts a fully intact 17th century warship called the Vasa. The Vasa museum is the most visited museum in all of Scandinavia

Vasa Museum

And you can see why. This massive warship and it's detailed wood work is definitely worth checking out.

Vasa Museum

In it's glory days, this is how it looked. Terrorizing the high seas with it's 64 guns and 300 soldiers

Stortorget, Gamla Stan

Stockholm also has some iconic old buildings which you can checkout in the old town, Gamla Stan.

Random street

Lot of the old buildings have some interesting looking features to them. Like these black windows popping out for the walls

And age is not a factor in Stockholm. Even if you are 50+, head over to the disco and dance to some smashing hits!
